Mission:
Applying, demonstrating, and highlighting the scientific and research aspect regarding the causes of tropical and transboundary diseases
Providing significant research, consultation, and valuable services, and working to create, develop and encourage research teams by providing the appropriate climate for carrying out research
Providing the necessary equipment and materials, and setting up plans to support disease prevention and control.
Objectives:
Establishing advanced laboratories by international standards to study, diagnose and isolate the pathogens of tropical and transboundary diseases in humans and animals, and apply the laboratory quality system and obtain accreditation.
Studying the epidemiology of tropical and transboundary diseases and providing the necessary information and data to contribute to their control and eradication.
Studying and developing antigens and vaccines against local pathogenic microorganisms and developing materials and methods for diagnosing diseases.
Carry out inspections, analyses, and standard tests, verify the application of the quality system, standards approved in laboratories and the food industry, and check safety from bacterial contamination.
Establishing a genetic bank for the different microbial strains endemic in Libya, to study their genetic variation, especially antibiotic resistance.
